How to Change a Tire Safely on the Side of the Road in Morocco – Day or Night

But don’t worry—changing a tire is easier than you think, even if you’re on a quiet Moroccan road or stuck at night. This guide will walk you through every step to confidently change a tire yourself, safely and efficiently.
What You’ll Need (These come with all Ramsco vehicles)
Spare tire (check the trunk)
Car jack
Lug wrench (usually included with jack)
Wheel wedges (or large rocks for stability)
Flashlight or phone with torch mode
Reflective triangle / hazard lights
Step 1: Get to a Safe Spot
If your tire goes flat while driving:
Slow down gradually.
Avoid hard braking.
Pull over to the right shoulder or side road.
If it’s dark, find a well-lit area or keep your hazards on.
Avoid stopping on curves or in high-speed areas. If you’re near a gas station or a café, stop there—safety first.
Step 2: Turn on Your Hazard Lights & Secure the Vehicle
Turn on the hazard lights immediately.
Use wheel wedges behind the opposite tires to stop the car from rolling.
Engage the handbrake (parking brake).
Turn off the engine and put the car in gear (manual) or Park (automatic).

Step 5: Lift the Car with the Jack
Locate the jack point near the flat tire—check under the car, usually behind the front wheel or in front of the rear wheel.
Place the jack firmly on solid ground (not sand or soft dirt).
Turn the jack handle to raise the car until the tire is 5–6 cm off the ground.
Step 6: Remove the Lug Nuts & Flat Tire
Now fully remove the loosened lug nuts and keep them in one place (cup, bag, or the hubcap).
Gently pull the flat tire straight off and lay it flat to avoid rolling.
Step 7: Mount the Spare Tire
Line up the holes in the spare tire with the bolts and push it in.
Put the lug nuts back on by hand, tightening them a little at a time in a star pattern (one across from the other).
Step 8: Lower the Car & Fully Tighten the Lug Nuts
Slowly lower the jack until the tire touches the ground completely.
Use the wrench to tighten the lug nuts as much as possible in a criss-cross/star pattern again.
Step 9: Clean Up & Check the Tire
Put your flat tire and all tools back into the trunk.
If it’s nighttime, double-check that your lights are working.
Drive to a tire shop or Ramsco-approved mechanic as soon as possible—spare tires aren’t meant for long distances or high speeds.
