How to change a Tire on the side of the road
How to Change a Tire Safely on the Side of the Road in Morocco – Day or Night
“First call +212-663-323-321 we will try our best to help you, this article is incase you do not understand the videos on the Home Page.”
Whether you’re cruising through the Rif Mountains or driving along the Atlantic coast, getting a flat tire can happen to anyone. But don’t worry—changing a tire is easier than you think, even if you’re on a quiet Moroccan road or stuck at night. This guide will walk you through every step to confidently change a tire yourself, safely and efficiently.
What You’ll Need (These come with all Ramsco vehicles)
Spare tire (check the trunk)
Car jack
Lug wrench (usually included with jack)
Wheel wedges (or large rocks for stability)
Flashlight or phone with torch mode
Reflective triangle / hazard lights

Step 1: Get to a Safe Spot
If your tire goes flat while driving:
Slow down gradually.
Avoid hard braking.
Pull over to the right shoulder or side road.
If it’s dark, find a well-lit area or keep your hazards on.
Avoid stopping on curves or in high-speed areas. If you’re near a gas station or a café, stop there—safety first.

Step 2: Turn on Your Hazard Lights & Secure the Vehicle
Turn on the hazard lights immediately.
Use wheel wedges behind the opposite tires to stop the car from rolling.
Engage the handbrake (parking brake).
Turn off the engine and put the car in gear (manual) or Park (automatic).

Step 3: Locate the Spare & Tools
Open the trunk. Under the carpeted floor you’ll find:
The spare tire
The jack
The lug wrench

Step 4: Loosen the Lug Nuts Slightly
Use the lug wrench to turn the lug nuts counter-clockwise (lefty-loosey).
Loosen them just a bit—don’t remove them completely yet.
If they’re too tight, step on the wrench (carefully) to get more leverage.
![]()
Step 5: Lift the Car with the Jack
Locate the jack point near the flat tire—check under the car, usually behind the front wheel or in front of the rear wheel.
Place the jack firmly on solid ground (not sand or soft dirt).
Turn the jack handle to raise the car until the tire is 5–6 cm off the ground.

Step 6: Remove the Lug Nuts & Flat Tire
Now fully remove the loosened lug nuts and keep them in one place (cup, bag, or the hubcap).
Gently pull the flat tire straight off and lay it flat to avoid rolling.

Step 7: Mount the Spare Tire
Line up the holes in the spare tire with the bolts and push it in.
Put the lug nuts back on by hand, tightening them a little at a time in a star pattern (one across from the other).

Step 8: Lower the Car & Fully Tighten the Lug Nuts
Slowly lower the jack until the tire touches the ground completely.
Use the wrench to tighten the lug nuts as much as possible in a criss-cross/star pattern again.

Step 9: Clean Up & Check the Tire
Put your flat tire and all tools back into the trunk.
If it’s nighttime, double-check that your lights are working.
Drive to a tire shop or Ramsco-approved mechanic as soon as possible—spare tires aren’t meant for long distances or high speeds.

Extra Tips for Nighttime Tire Changes
Always use your phone’s flashlight or a dedicated torch to see clearly.
Wear a reflective vest if you have one.
Place a reflective triangle about 15–20 meters behind the car to alert other drivers.

Still Not Sure or Feeling Unsafe?
If you’re ever unsure, or if it’s unsafe (bad road, no lights, heavy traffic), call Ramsco’s emergency roadside support. We’re here to help—day or night.
Summary Checklist:
Pull over safely & turn on hazards
Use wheel wedges & handbrake
Get tools & spare from trunk
Loosen lug nuts slightly
Jack up the car
Remove flat tire
Install spare
Lower car & tighten nuts
Drive to repair shop

Which type should I choose Automatic or Manual

How to Choose the Right Car for Your Moroccan Road Trip
Manual or automatic? Compact or SUV? Here’s how to choose the perfect vehicle for your adventure across Morocco.
From the winding alleys of Fez to the vast dunes of the Sahara, Morocco is a land best explored on your own schedule. And there’s no better way to do that than in a car that fits your journey. But before you hit the road, you’ll need to decide: Which car should you rent?
Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll help you choose the best Ramsco vehicle for your Moroccan adventure based on terrain, comfort, gear type, and fuel efficiency.
Step 1: Know Your Road Trip Itinerary
Are you sticking to cities like Fez, Rabat, and Marrakech? Or are you heading to off-the-beaten-path places like Merzouga, Ouarzazate, or the Atlas Mountains?
If you’re mostly staying in cities:
A compact car like the Dacia Logan or Peugeot 208 is ideal.
Easier to park in tight medina areas.
More fuel-efficient in stop-and-go traffic.
If your plans include the desert or mountain villages:
Opt for a more powerful manual car like the Dacia Logan or a rugged SUV if available.
You’ll need good torque for unpaved roads or steep climbs.

Step 2: Manual vs. Automatic – Which Should You Choose?
Let’s break it down honestly:
Manual Cars (Most Common in Morocco)
Cheaper to rent and more fuel efficient.
Give better control on mountainous or rural roads.
All Ramsco manual cars are brand new, well-maintained, and incredibly smooth to drive—even if you’re new to manual.
“Our customers often tell us our manuals are easier and quieter than what they’re used to abroad. That’s the advantage of driving a well-maintained, new vehicle.”

Automatic Cars
Ideal for first-time drivers in Morocco or those who prefer comfort.
Great for long drives and city traffic.
Limited availability in Morocco, but Ramsco offers automatic options like the Volkswagen T-Roc—modern, powerful, and GPS-equipped.

Step 3: Fuel Efficiency – Save While You Explore
Fuel prices in Morocco are cheaper than in Europe, but they add up over long distances. Here’s how Ramsco’s cars compare:
| Vehicle | Gear Type | Fuel Type | Efficiency (km/l) | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dacia Sandero | Manual | Diesel | 20 km/l | Budget-friendly trips |
| Peugeot 208 | Manual | Diesel | 17 km/l | Couples & city trips |
| Dacia Logan | Manual | Diesel | 19 km/l | Economy and best value |
| Renault Clio | Automatic | Petrol | 18 km/l | Smooth road handling |
| VW T-Roc | Automatic | Diesel | 15 km/l | Long-distance luxury |

Step 4: Space & Comfort – Think About Passengers and Luggage
Ask yourself:
Are you traveling solo, as a couple, or with family?
Will you carry large luggage, sports gear, or souvenirs?
Manual hatchbacks are surprisingly spacious in the trunk, while automatics like the T-Roc are ideal for families with more space needs and comfort expectations.

Bonus: All Ramsco Vehicles Include GPS and Roadside Support
Whether you’re renting a manual or automatic, your car will come with:
Built-in GPS (no need for mobile data)
Free roadside assistance
Customer support in French, Arabic, and English
We don’t just give you a car—we give you peace of mind.

Final Tip: Ask for Advice Before Booking
At Ramsco, we’re more than happy to guide you. Just tell us:
Your route
Your passenger count
Your driving preference
And we’ll recommend the best vehicle for your comfort, safety, and budget.

Moroccos Road Rules
Driving in Morocco: What Tourists Need to Know Before Hitting the Road
Planning to drive across Morocco? Here’s your complete guide to road rules, police stops, tolls, and what to expect—so there are no surprises once you’re behind the wheel.
Driving in Morocco is one of the best ways to explore the country. From the bustling souks of Fez to the golden dunes of Merzouga, having your own vehicle means freedom, flexibility, and comfort. But before you start the engine, there are a few things you need to know—especially if you’re used to driving in Europe or North America.
Let’s break down the most important parts of driving in Morocco, one step at a time.
1. Driving Laws & Road Rules: Know Before You Go
Basic Legal Requirements
Driver’s License: You can use your foreign driver’s license for up to 1 year in Morocco. International Driving Permits (IDPs) are optional but recommended.
Minimum Age: You must be 21 years old to rent a car in Morocco. For premium cars, some agencies require 25+.
Drive on the Right: Morocco follows right-hand traffic, just like the U.S. and most of Europe.
What You Can’t Do (Compared to Other Countries)
| 🚦 Rule | Allowed in Other Countries? | Allowed in Morocco? |
|---|---|---|
| Turn right on red | ✔ USA, Canada | ❌ Not allowed in Morocco |
| Use phone while driving | ❌ Some EU countries with hands-free | ❌ Totally banned in Morocco |
| Pass on the right | ✔ USA in certain cases | ❌ Illegal and dangerous in Morocco |
| No seatbelt on back seat | ✔ Some countries | ❌ Everyone must wear a seatbelt |

2. Police Stops: What to Expect
Police checkpoints are common and normal in Morocco, especially when entering or exiting cities.
What They Usually Check:
Driver’s license
Passport
Car rental papers
Insurance
Car registration (called Carte Grise)
How to Handle a Stop:
Slow down as you approach and roll your window down.
Be polite and patient—most officers are friendly and may even give you directions.
If you made a small mistake, they may let you go with a warning. However, fines for speeding or phone use are enforced.
💡 Tip: Always have 100–200 MAD in small bills for minor roadside fees or parking.

3. Road Types & Conditions
In Cities:
Expect chaotic traffic, especially in Fez, Marrakech, and Casablanca.
Roundabouts are common—give way to the left, unless otherwise indicated.
Pedestrians may cross randomly—always be alert.
In the Countryside:
Roads are generally well-paved between cities.
Be cautious of:
Donkeys or livestock
Sudden potholes
Sharp turns on mountain passes
4. Moroccan Road Signs You Should Recognize
| Sign | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🛑 Red octagon | Stop |
| ⚠️ Triangle | Warning (slippery, sharp turn, etc.) |
| 🚷 Circle with red border | Prohibited (no entry, no U-turn) |
| ➡️ Blue circle | Mandatory direction |
| 🅿️ Blue with white P | Parking allowed |

5. Toll Roads & Costs
Morocco has several modern highways (autoroutes) connecting major cities, and many have tolls.
Main Toll Routes:
Rabat to Casablanca: ~20 MAD
Casablanca to Marrakech: ~70 MAD
Fez to Meknès: ~11 MAD
Tangier to Rabat: ~100 MAD
Keep at least 150–200 MAD in cash (coins + small bills) in your car just for tolls.
Tolls are cash-only, no cards or mobile apps. If you’re driving long-distance, tolls are much cheaper than in Europe but do add up.

6. Parking in Moroccan Cities
In cities, parking can be tricky—especially near medinas or old quarters. Here’s how it works:
Types of Parking:
| Type | Description | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Street parking with guardian | Attendant watches the car | 2–5 MAD/hour |
| Underground parking garages | More secure | 5–10 MAD/hour |
| Free parking | Rare, outside city centers | 0 MAD |
👮 You’ll often see a man in a vest (a “guardian”)—he’s unofficial but common. Tip him 2–5 MAD when you leave.

7. City Driving vs. Country Driving
| Feature | City | Countryside |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic | High congestion | Light to moderate |
| Pedestrians | Frequent & unpredictable | Rare |
| Road signs | Clear but crowded | Sparse but visible |
| Hazards | Scooters, jaywalkers | Animals, sharp curves |
| GPS Signal | Strong | May drop in mountains |
💡 Bonus Tip: Always download offline maps for remote areas.

8. Fueling Up: What You Should Know
Fuel types: Diesel (Gasoil) and Unleaded (Sans Plomb)
Cost (as of 2025): ~13–15 MAD/liter
Pay in cash or card at most stations
Full-service only—an attendant will fill it for you
![]()
9. What to Keep in the Car at All Times
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Passport & license | Police stops |
| Vehicle documents | Required |
| Cash (200–300 MAD) | Tolls, parking, emergencies |
| Water & snacks | Especially for long drives |
| Flashlight & phone charger | In case of night driving or GPS loss |
